In 1935, Roop K. Shorey directed Majnu 1935 under the banner of Kamla Movie tone. The leading man of this film was Majnu (Harold Lewis) while the leading lady was Shyama Zutshi M.A. Shyama, who was a Congress leader belonged to Kashmiri Pandit family. Her father was a Barrister. The rest of the cast included Amir Begum, Mukhtar Begum, Sultan Beg, Hukum Singh, and Kamla. The shooting of this film started in 1933 and it was named as Majnu 1933, later its name got changed to Majnu 1934. When the film got completed, the title was changed to Majnu 1935.

This film was released on 19th June 1935 in Nishat Cinema – Lahore. One of the ghazals “Aa saal-e-mastana bhara hai mera paimana, Ghanghour ghata hai yah udta hua maikhana” for this film was written by Agha Hashar and sung by Mukhtar Begum.

Another popular song from this film was a duet sung by Shamshad Begum and Ahmed Deen “Bari bai haiya hain nighahien kisi ki, Mohabbat mein lai lein balayien kisi ki”
